Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. However, for an Irish girl surrounded with gifted parents and extended family these characteristics were a normal. Maureen was welcomed into the sanctity of family on the 17th of August 1920 located in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and held shares of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and participated in rough, competitive games when she was young. Her passion was coupled with a natural talent for performance. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award for Theatre and Drama the country could offer. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she pursued her dreams of operatic as well as classical theatre and singing.
